DoggieDaycareColumbus.com | Meet The Pack

Karen Kiser, Director and Co-Owner
Background: I worked for over 25 years in a customer-based industry. I worked my way up from entry level to a corporate
vice president allowing me to see and experience the service industry from all sides. I am also a lifelong animal owner, lover
and advocate. So, Doggie Daycare Center has allowed me to integrate my passion for dogs with my total customer satisfaction
experience.
If I were a dog I would be... My own dogs, Logan and Rigby. I doubt there are two more loved dogs anywhere. They are
spoiled with attention and get pretty much whatever they want. It's a great life.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Seeing the excitement and anticipation of the dogs when they come in to
play with their friends. And the client's comments on how much their dogs love being at DDC. It is very gratifying.
Amy
Background: I have been employed at Doggie Daycare Center since 2006 and I can say that I still love it. I have always
loved the animals especially dogs. I am currently employed as a veterinary technician full time with Banfield. Needless to say dogs
are my passion. I can't imagine working part time anywhere else. Each dog here is like family and I can't wait to play with them every
time I work. I am the proud parent of a beautiful Doberman and a spoiled min-pin.
If I were a dog I would be... Any dog that is well loved and spoiled but more specifically a Doberman because they are loyal,
loving, gentle and gorgeous.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Having the opportunity to play with and love on the dogs all day. It's also awesome
to watch the puppies blossom into loving adults. I have become very close to the dogs here and treat them as I would my own.
Seth
Background: I've loved dogs since I was a boy. When I got my very own dog Didymus, I finally had the chance to
train and raise her and watch the bond grow between us. She has taught me so much and made me realize my passion for
animal psychology which is a field that I plan on getting into in the future.
If I were a dog I would be... A border collie because of their high level of intelligence and their endless energy.
All I'd need is a job, a lot of land to run on and someone to love and be loyal to.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Coming to work and loving what I do and having the
chance to learn so much from all my furry friends.
Lauren "Lu"
Background: I moved from New Jersey to Columbus about two years ago to try something new. After working with doges since
high school (almost 9 years), finding my niche here at Doggie Daycare Center was natural. I've owned dogs for years. When I moved,
my parents wanted to keep my two Boston Terriers Beans and PiggPenn. Living with a dog was awful so shortly after getting settled,
I adopted my Bullmastiff, Ahab, who comes to work with me every day.
In the future, I'd like to find time to become a proper trainer and behaviorist. So many dogs are abandoned every year because of
behavioral issues and lack a proper training. If I can save them and make their lives better by investing some time and energy,
I'll make a difference.
If I were a dog I would be... One of my own! I bend over backwards to take care of and spoil them. My friends call me "Crazy
Dog Lady" because I spend about half my monthly pay on Ahab. Spoiled Boy!
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... The best thing about DDC is how tired all the pups are after playing all day!
They go home, pass out, sleep through the night and come back for more in the morning. What's better than watching a happy dog rest
peacefully?
Deni
Background: I have an enormous love for animals but have always had a soft spot for dogs. I was never allowed to have a dog
growing up so I decided I would find a job based around dogs. I've worked at vet clinics, kennels and retail stores. I became a certified
dog groomer while working at PetSmart and love seeing the transformation in the dogs I groom.
If I were a dog I would be... A Cavalier King Charles. They are so sweet and loving and have the cutest little faces...ever!
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Everything! I love coming to work to see what dogs will be there, who's playing with who.
It's great to see dogs that have been gone for a while or have moved away and came back to visit. It's really rewarding to see all the dogs
interacting and playing with each other. I couldn't ask for a better job!!
Lauren
Background: I grew up in Columbus and have always been an animal lover. I have had almost every animal you can think of. I am currently
a student at OSU and hope to have a career that involves animals. I have two dogs named Remy and Libby. Remy is a Cocker Spaniel/Shi Tzu mix and
Libby is a German Shepherd short haired pointer mix. Hopefully, one day I can have a big enough house to get a lot more pups!
If I were a dog I would be... A mutt. They are often the most beautiful dogs and very unique. They are also very even-tempered and
affectionate.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Of course playing with the dogs all day! All the dogs love it here and it is very entertaining
watching them all interact and play. It has also been great learning about all the different breeds and learning more about training. There is never
a dull day here.
Molly
Background: I grew up with German Shepherds and have had a passion for animals all my life. In middle school, I began fundraising for my county
pound and my freshman year at OSU, I founded the student organization, Buckeyes for Canines (BiK9). The next year, I began fostering and rescuing dogs
and cats and have since adopted two fosters, Remmington and Loki. I currently foster with Pets Without Parents and Pet Promise and am very appreciative
to the Doggie Daycare Center for allowing me to board and bring so many fosters to the center. DDC is the third daycare and boarding facility that I have
worked and I have to say that I absolutely love it here. I am finishing my 4th year at OSU for women's studies and political science and hope to attend
law school and pursue a career in animal law. Wish me luck!
If I were a dog I would be... one of my fosters. All of the pit bull type dogs that come into my home are such amazing dogs that have overcome so
many things and yet have remained so loyal and loving. They all get to be spoiled and play at DDC and attend tons of fun events. They haven't had the
easiest lives but they certainly give so much back to the world.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Other than how much they help with the rescue dogs, I love spending my days with all the awesome
daycare dogs! Every day is different and I love getting to play with old friends and meeting new dogs every day. I've learned so much from the dogs and
not much is more entertaining than watching everybody play in the pools or see their excitement when they come in or go home. I can't imagine a world
without these great companions.
April
Background: I have a passion for dogs since I can remember. I always knew I was meant to work with them. I am a registered veterinary technician.
I love being able to play with dogs and being able to help and save them on a daily basis too. Working here at Doggie Daycare Center and in the veterinary
field, I get to do both.
If I were a dog I would be... A mutt…because they have the best personalities. They have a great mixture of 1, 2 or more breeds wrapped up into one
great dog.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... I get to hang out with dogs all day long. Dogs never judge or run out of love to give. All they ever
want is to play, be loved or just take a nice long nap.
Colleen
Background: My love for dogs started when I was a little girl. There was a lab in my family from the day I was born until I left for college in 2008.
I moved to Columbus in 2010 to attend CSCC and major in Dietetics. When I moved here, I rescued a mutt of my own and my passion for dogs grew even more.
If I were a dog I would be... My mutt Reese. He has a great personality and is very spoiled and loved.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... That every day is something new, from new dogs coming in to learning new things about dogs. It is also great
knowing that I am going to get lots of love from the dogs every day no matter what.
Liz
Background: I'm a student at Columbus State Community College finishing up my associate of Arts degree and hoping to go to the technical school to become a
Vet Tech. I love dogs. I got my first dog, a Labrador retriever named Genevieve when I was eight years old. I loved the responsibility of training and raising her,
as well as, always having her to curl up with after school.
If I were a dog I would be... A Labrador Retriever. They're laid back and easy going but also very fun loving and loyal companions!
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Playing with the dogs…all day long! Learning all the different personalities of all the dogs here is pretty
awesome too. Each dog has its own goofy and quirky personalities and I love seeing them all interact.
Kimbrey
Background: I've been working with dogs in kennels, vet clinics and daycare settings for the past eight years. I recently graduated with a Biology degree from
Denison University with an interest in animal behavior. I hope to go to graduate school to study canine cognition or behavior, as my dream job is to help owners modify
and improve problem dog behavior. When I'm not in the day care, I'm either taking my dog Porter on hikes or playing music in my folk-bluegrass band.
If I were a dog I would be... A Doberman. They're silly, goofy dogs that love to learn and be with everyone.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Being able to watch dogs interact in a large group setting. Sometimes it's loud, sometimes it's funny, but it's always
interesting. There's a lot to learn every time you've got a group of dogs together.
Rachel
Background: I have always had a passion for animals and surround myself with them. I've been working in dog daycares for years and love every minute of it. I am a
veterinary technician currently with plans to go back to OSU to study animal science. I plan to continue to dedicate my time to helping animals in need.
If I were a dog I would be... A husky because they are friendly, playful and bright.Although my energy level compares more to my lazy husky, Cyrus.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Being able to have such a special relationship with the dogs and their parents is by far the best thing here.
Ted, Groomer
Background: I am the Domestic Canine Appearance Technician here at DDC. I took up grooming in 1969. I attended the
now defunct Columbus School of Dog Grooming which at the time was affiliated with the New York School. I have been a full
time groomer since 1992. When not at the DDC, I can be found on stage as an actor or throwing darts.
If I were a dog I would be... An Oscar Mayer Hot Dog cause everyone would be in love with me.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... Watching all the dogs have so much fun all day.
Mocha Chip and Mallomar
Background: Both Mallomar and I were adopted as puppies from the Franklin County Humane Shelter by our parents who
along with our grandma own the Doggie Daycare Center.
If I were a person I would be... Michael Phelps because he gets to swim all day-every day which is my most favorite
thing to do in the whole world. Mallomar would work at Nabisco where she would get to make Mallomar cookies and taste test
treats all day, her most favorite thing to do.
Best Thing About Doggie Daycare Center is... If we stand in the day care office window, we get treats from all the parents
when they pick up their 'kids' and we get to play in the back with all our friends or come up front and hang out in the office
with grandma.
